eChef 1.2 Released
A new version of eChef is now available for download: eChef 1.2. This is a free upgrade, and we recommend it for all users.
A number of great new features were added in this release:
- eChef can now import XML files exported from MasterCook™ software. Click “Import Recipes” as usual, and then select “MasterCook XML” from the “Files of type” dropdown box in the file selection dialog box. You can import any file with an .mx2 extension.
- eChef will now automatically attempt to import .eat files when they are opened from Windows (for example, by double-clicking the file).
- The Ingredients and Grocery Categories master lists have been merged into a new interface that’s cleaner and easier to use.
- New ingredients, categories, occasions, recipe types, and preparation methods no longer have to be verified during import—they are all added automatically.
- RTF export now includes attached images.
- Recipe “History” has been renamed to “Notes.”
- A “Description” field has been added to recipes.
- The license key entry dialog box is now much easier to use.
- Ingredient listings in the Ingredient Master List and in shopping lists now ignore certain common adjectives when sorting—so “tomato,” “large tomato,” and “fresh tomato” all appear next to each other, for example.
- Many small performance enhancements, interface tweaks, and bug fixes were made.
To upgrade from eChef 1.1 or later, just download and run the installer. If you are upgrading from eChef 1.0, things are little more complicated; please see the FAQ for detailed instructions.
Please note that after running eChef 1.2 once, your recipe library will no longer be compatible with earlier versions of eChef. In addition, recipe files saved with eChef 1.2 cannot be opened in earlier versions. So encourage your friends to upgrade—it’s free, after all!
